LaShell Renee Griffin (born January 14, 1968 as LaShell Renee Thomas), her first album, Free, was released by Epic Records in 2004. This was a groundbreaking release of Billboard magazine in four charts, The Billboard 200, Gospel Albums, R Winner of Oprah Winfrey's first Pop Star Challenge, the youthful sensation of the show as Star Search and American Idol, was LaShell Griffin, 36, a mother of five from Detroit.Gerffin's vocal style, who mixes gospel and R & B influences, and his charisma with performances from songs like "One Moment in Time" and "The Greatest Love of All" helped Griffin win the grand prize of the competition: a contract with EMI Records singing in the choir of the church when she was 13 and soon became one of the choir's top soloists. As an adult, her children and her marriage to her husband Lee (also a singer) were her top priorities, but Griffin continued to sing along he performed at weddings as much as his schedule allowed. When she was at home recovering from a broken foot in November 2003, Griffin heard for the first time about Oprah's Pop Star Challenge; she and Lee sent a tape of their version of "Amazing Grace," and a few weeks later they discovered that she was on the show. The contest attracted 15,000 aspirants, but Griffin made it through the semifinals and finals to become Oprah's pop star in early 2004.
