James Fortune, November 29, 1978, in Richmond, Texas, was raised in the church where his father was a pastor and drummer at age five. He graduated from Kempner High School in Sugar Land, Texas, and then studied at Cal State Northridge, and subsequently became the choirmaster for Dimension Church in Houston, preacher, choir leader, master of ceremonies, and service administrator. cult, as he is a direct singer, Fortune's strength lies in understanding how to put gospel and songs of praise to a young audience of the 21st century, and with his featured choir, Fiya (meaning free in Yahweh's abundance), he freely incorporates hip-hop arrangements and urban hits on her recordings, which include You Survived (2004), The Transformation (2007), Encore (2010) and Identity and Grace Gift (both released in 2012). Their first live album, Live Disc It, appeared in early 2014. In early 2017, Fortune released the single "I Forgive Me" in anticipation of the release of Dear Future Me, which came out in June of that year.
