She is hailed as having a strengthening voice, but soothing, and Damita would do nothing but sing with a positive message. Damita, who is originally from Detroit, grew up singing and playing music at home and at the church choir. She is the wife of Gospel star Deitrick Haddon, and from early on she traveled with the production of Gospel Theater Mama Do not. Later she joined the female group a cappella Adoration & Praise, in which the group recorded an album.
Damita credits her touring experience with the original diva, Aretha Franklin, as an endless inspirational motivation to make music. Four years after this initial meeting, Damita came along with her husband and pioneering R & B producer Arif Mardin to launch their self-titled debut in the fall of 2000.
