David Mann & Tamela Mann - Us Against the World - 2018

Contemporary gospel singer Tamela Mann, known for her strong and powerful soprano singing voice, was born on June 9, 1966 in Fort Worth, Texas, the youngest of 14 children. Mann's childhood was centered by the presence of the Church of God in Christ (where her mother often served as psalmist). She was singing in the church's adult choir by the time she was 12, often as a soloist, and continued singing in choirs throughout high school. Her professional singing career began in the '90s, when she joined Kirk Franklin & the Family's gospel organization, eventually spotlighted on several tracks. The experience led to an acting career, as well as successful solo recordings acknowledged through numerous Dove, Stellar, and Grammy award nominations.

Gotta Keep Movin' After she left Franklin's organization, Mann's acting career began with a role in David E. Talbert's He Say…She Say…But What Does God Say?, a gospel musical. Mann moved on to play the character Cora Simmons in several Tyler Perry stage, film, and television projects, including I Can Do Bad All by Myself, Diary of a Mad Black Woman, and Meet the Browns, the last of which developed into a television series that featured her and husband David Mann. Busy as she was, Mann established a solo career with Gotta Keep Movin' (2005) and the concert CD/DVD The Live Experience (2007), then updated her faith-based gospel sound with contemporary R&B touches on The Master Plan (2009). Best Days (2012), her most popular release, debuted at number one on the Billboard Gospel chart and peaked at number 14 on the Billboard 200. After the conclusion of the second season of her comedic series Mann and Wife, Mann released her fourth solo album, One Way, another gospel-chart topper.

Phil Travel - Worship Offering - 2017

Phil Tarver is a contemporary gospel musician and pastor based in Chicago. After spending several years singing for Michael Houston & Ministre, and recording with groups such as Shekinah Glory Ministry and Walt Whitman & the Soul Children of Chicago, he made his solo debut with Draw Nearer on Kingdom Records in 2007. The live worship LP reached number 14 on Billboard's Gospel Albums chart and produced the Top 20 gospel hit "Better Than That." He followed it a year later with the studio LP Be Pleased on the same label. Tarver climbed to number four on the Hot Gospel Albums chart with 2010's Place of Worship, which was released on audio and video formats. "God Is Able" returned him to the gospel songs Top 20. His fourth full-length, Sweet Spirit, followed in 2012. Continuing to sing in conjunction with pastoring, he was with Illinois' United Faith Center Ministries International when he performed in Liberia in 2017.

Koryn Hawthorne - Unstoppable - 2018

A singer blessed with a soulful, highly resonant timbre, Koryn Hawthorne is best known as a contestant on season eight of NBC's The Voice. A native of Abbeville, Louisiana, Hawthorne is the daughter of a minister and was first introduced to music while singing in church. During high school, Hawthorne sang locally at festivals, nursing homes, and charity events. In 2015, though only 16 years old, she was accepted onto the NBC reality vocal competition The Voice with her rendition of Emeli Sandé's "My Kind of Love." Initially picked as a member of judge Christina Aguilera's team, Hawthorne was eventually "stolen" by judge Pharrell Williams. During her time on the show, Hawthorne received mentoring from guest Gwen Stefani and made it past the Top Ten with her rendition of Ed Sheeran's "Make It Rain," which debuted at number three on the iTunes songs chart the week of her performance. In 2016, Hawthorne signed a management deal with Maximum Artist Group and recorded the theme song for the Bounce TV series Saints & Sinners. She released an eponymous debut EP the following year. In 2018, she returned with her full-length debut album, Unstoppable, which featured the title-track single, as well as the single "Down Goes Rome."

Jonathan Mcreynolds - Make Room - 2018

Contemporary gospel artist Jonathan McReynolds, a native of Chicago, Illinois' South Side, learned to play drums and keyboards prior to taking up singing in high school. He was briefly a member of the group Mind Over Matter, which released an EP before his solo move. McReynolds recorded a short set of songs and distributed it to family members with no intention of an official release, but it reached John Hannah, a local pastor and DJ who aired some of the material on Chicago's WGRB. The Very Unofficial EP was eventually released to the public and showcased McReynolds' intimate fusion of modern R&B, jazz, and contemporary singer/songwriter rock.

Life Music In May 2012, his single "I Love You" reached Billboard's Hot Gospel Songs chart. His proper debut album, Life Music, followed that September on Light Records and hit the top half of the Billboard 200. So did the follow-up, Life Music: Stage Two, which topped the gospel chart after its release in 2015. It produced two Top Ten gospel songs in "Pressure" and "Gotta Have You." He landed in the Top Three of the Gospel Albums chart for the third time in a row with Sessions EP in the summer of 2016. Released in early 2018, McReynolds' third full-length, Make Room, was recorded live and featured guest performances from Tonya Baker, Dee-1, and others.

Le'Andria Johnson - Bigger Than Me - 2017

Gospel and praise & worship singer Le'Andria Johnson's journey to a recording career almost ran like the plot for a made-for-TV movie of the week as she overcame obstacles, hardships, and personal disasters to get there. Born on January 23, 1983, Johnson was the twice-divorced single mother of three children when she fell on hard times, losing her home to foreclosure the day before a friend convinced her to drive to New Orleans in a borrowed car to audition for the cable TV show Sunday Best. The daughter of a preacher, Johnson had sung in front of her father's congregations since she was two years old, but she had hardly considered a professional career as a gospel singer. She arrived at the TV audition with little time to spare, and wearing flip flops and the clothes she drove there in, she was amazed to be selected as a contestant. Johnson ended up being declared the winner at the end of the show's third season in 2010, a placing that not only came with the gift of a new car and a cash prize, but also, in time, a recording deal through the show's newly formed Sunday Best imprint under the Music World Gospel label umbrella. A debut seven-song EP, The Awakening of Le'Andria Johnson, was released in 2011, followed by a second seven-song EP, The Evolution of Le'Andria Johnson, in 2012. The two EPs were then combined in 2012 to make a full album, titled The Awakening of Le'Andria Johnson Deluxe. A second full-length, the live The Experience, also appeared in 2012. During 2015, she appeared on the Oxygen reality TV series Preachers of Atlanta, a spin-off of their hit show Preachers of L.A. She returned with her second album, Bigger Than Me, two years later.

Keyondra Lockett - Bring Me To - 2015

Singer and songwriter Keyondra Lockett was a founding member of gospel group Zie'l before she began releasing her own urban contemporary-styled inspirational music as a solo artist in the early 2010s. After issuing a couple of mixtapes, her bright, soulful vocal tone took center stage on her first official solo release, the Bring Me To EP, in 2015. She has also written songs for artists such as Crystal Aiken, Kierra Sheard, and Virtue.

Fearless In 2015, Lockett returned with Soul Couture II as well as the EP Bring Me To, her official solo debut. It was released via her label, Bella Dawn Music Group. "Make Me Better," a song she co-wrote for Kierra Sheard, appeared on Sheard's LED EP, also in 2015. The following year, Lockett became the first gospel artist to license her own doll after joining forces with Kenya & Friends. With production by Jor'dan Armstrong, Lockett did her own version of "Make Me Better" retitled "You Make Me Better" in mid-2017, and a song she penned for Virtue appeared on their Fearless LP in February of 2018. That same month, the Lockett single "Try" saw release; it featured production by Tedy P Williams.

Darnell Davis & The Remnant - Live Again -2017

Minneapolis-based gospel and praise & worship ensemble Darnell Davis & the Remnant began as six friends who liked to sing together but, behind F. Darnell Davis' songwriting and production skills, grew into an incredibly versatile choir of 15 vocalists and an intact, five-piece band. Davis, who has written spiritual-based songs for artists and groups like Sounds of Blackness, Wayman Tisdale, and Ricky Dillard, and is an accomplished arranger, producer, and worship leader on his own, has guided the group through its albums, including Psalms of the Remnant, No Compromise, Refocused, and Moving Forward, which appeared in 2014 after the group had signed with RCA Records. By the time he released Live Again in August 2017, Davis had left RCA; the album was an independent release.

Jekalyn Carr - One Nation Under God - 2018

As a gospel singer, songwriter, author, actress, and motivational speaker, Jekalyn Carr made her name in the mid-2010s, earning her first hit at the age of 15 with 2012's "Greater Is Coming" and releasing a string of increasingly successful albums including 2016's The Life Project and 2018's Grammy-nominated One Nation Under God. Along the way, the inspirational young artist found time to launch an acting career and pen a book as well.

God Has a Promise Over Your Life The West Memphis-based gospel artist made her debut in 2010 with the EP God Has a Promise Over Your Life. In 2012, Carr landed a hit with the single "Greater Is Coming," which became the title track of her debut full-length in 2013. The album climbed into the Billboard 200 album chart and debuted at number three on Billboard's Top Gospel Albums chart, earning her a Stellar Award. Her 2014 sophomore outing, It's Gonna Happen, peaked at the number nine slot on the Gospel Albums chart. In early 2016, Carr issued "You're Bigger," the lead single from her forthcoming third LP, The Life Project, which dropped later that August. In addition to being featured on a 2017 episode of the OWN TV series Greenleaf, she released the hit single "You Will Win" and published an inspirational book of the same name in early 2018. Carr's fourth long-player, One Nation Under God, followed in 2018, topping the gospel chart and earning two Grammy nominations. She made her film acting debut in the family drama Never Heard.

Keyboardist Doobie Powell is a gifted leader and sideman know for his soulful gospel, funk, and jazz-oriented work. Following sessions in the '90s with his father, Rev. Hubert Powell, Sr., he issued his own richly emotive albums, including 2003's For the Love of It All and 2019's Finding Myself Again with Snarky Puppy's Robert "Sput" Searight.

The Offspring, Vol. 1 Born Hubert Leander Powell III in 1975 in Hartford, Connecticut, Doobie Powell was raised in a musical and religious family. His father, Hubert Powell, Sr., had toured with organist Richard "Groove" Holmes and was a co-founder of the funk and disco group Wood, Brass & Steel (which evolved into the backing ensemble for the seminal rap group the Sugarhill Gang in the '80s). In the late '70s, Powell's father and mother, singer Jacquelyn Powell, returned to their gospel roots, working as pastors and musicians at their Hartford church. Subsequently, Powell was introduced to gospel music at a young age and grew up playing drums with his parents. By his teens, he was listening to an eclectic mix of gospel, jazz, fusion, and funk. His adept skills and wide-ranging ear found him in demand as a session player, and over the years he has worked with such artists as Kim Burrell, Musiq Soulchild, Robert Glasper, the Clark Sisters, Tonéx, Tye Tribbett, Kelly Price, and Tramaine Hawkins, among others. Along with touring and session work, Powell also holds the position of Minister of Music at Latter Rain Christian Fellowship, where his parents are pastors. As a solo artist, he debuted in 2002 with The Offspring (re-released in 2005 as The Offspring, Vol. 1), which he followed a year later with For the Love of It All. 4 Zoe arrived in 2007, and in 2009, Powell released The Time Is Now. Finding Myself Again arrived on Ropeadope Records in 2019 and featured collaborations with Snarky Puppy drummer Robert "Sput" Searight. Included on the album was the single "Just Do It."
